Last night with the Towers.

After we all had washed our hair three times we passed out on the couch watching the Kardashians.

But after that we went down to Boulder for dinner and ended up playing some darts.

It was 7 p.m. but it felt like midnight.

Being a zombie is exhausting.
But if any zombie casting directors are reading this, then I would be exhausted all the time if it means I get to be a zombie again...

WE ARE ZOMBIES!!!

The alarm went off at 5:30 a.m. on Saturday morning. It felt like Christmas.
We were about to become zombies!

We signed up to be zombies in March for the Run for your Lives Zombie 5k. We have been waiting patiently ever since, but the day finally arrived. As zombies candidates we were given professional zombie make-up, a free t-shirt, and a free beer! The Towers were in town to run the actual race. As zombies we were take the runners flags, if all 3 flags were taken, they were considered dead (but could still finish the race obviously). The course was intense, so we were glad we decided on being a zombie versus running... woah.

Anyway, on to our transformation and events of the day!

We had to be there two and a half hours early.
We could wear whatever we wanted, so we decided on 80's style Denim Dan and Denim Danielle zombies.
Because who doesn't love an excuse to wear all denim cut offs....!

Once we got through all the check-ins we headed up to the make-up station. I really wasn't sure what was going to happen but it was pretty darn cool.
They sent us through stations, they ripped our clothes, gave us prosthetic bites, air brushed our sunken eyes, and applied chunky nasty blood and dirt to our face.
Face make-up finished, pre blood and mud.

The next line was where they threw mud and blood all over you.
The blood is cold and wet and doesn't dry very quickly and sticky! My camera was full of sticky blood.

Marshall's chest bite.

My face bite.
(that my hair kept getting stuck in. eww)

After we were finished with make-up we all just stood there waiting for it to start.
We literally all looked like a bunch of zombies, standing very still with our hands at our side, not moving... moving meant blood dripped down your back and butt and you couldn't move your face a lot because your face was covered in gunk so we all just stood.
Very zombie and eerie like.
It was funny.

The Towers were racing in our heat so we were able to see them for about a minute before we had to get to our section.
In the perfect world we would have taken about 100 more pictures with them, but zombie duty called.

We were the lucky zombies, we were the only section that had a tree and shade.
I would have been lobster zombie if I was in direct sunlight for 3 hours.

Our section was at the end of the race so it took a while for people to get to us. So we did what any modern zombie would do.
We texted.

We had 2 kid zombies in our group. And kid zombies are always the creepiest.
Their dad owned the property the race was on so they got to party too.
Every time a runner would see them they would yell "BABY ZOMBIES, HOW CUTE!!"
And the girls did not like that, they would yell 'WE'RE KID ZOMBIES" And then they would take their flags. They were good and scary.

When the Towers made it to us they were covered in mud and exhausted!
But they stopped for pictures.

After a couple of hours of harassing runners and taking their flags our shift was over. I was glad because it was hot and my zombie noises were getting weird. I accidentally meowed at a runner and the runner said "CAT ZOMBIE". I also "rarrred" at someone, I apparently was also dinosaur zombie.

We headed to claim our beer and find our friends!

After, we left the amazing people watching festivities and went to lunch.
These pictures don't do us justice.... we were DISGUSTING. Actually, check out Rhonda's hair... it is covered in mud and felt like a helmet. Incredible. (Sorry for calling your hair out Rhonda... but it's so awesome).
I would have left my zombie make-up on but apparently you needed special stuff to get it all off with... umm no thanks.

The day felt like a dream. It was perfect.

I think I've found my calling... to be a zombie extra. No, a professional zombie.

kisses.

car rides and famous people.

I have had such an eventful week that I haven't even had time to open my computer. And I'm okay with that! After a great couple of days doing nothing back home, I had to get back to my "home" in Colorado. Flying standby again, I didn't know what flight I was going to get, so I decided to forget the fast airplane travel and drive 10 hours with our dear friends the Towers, Marc and Rhonda (parents friends, but also like my family), and Candace (their daughter-in-law and my good friend, remember her wedding here). They were already planning on  driving because they were racing in the ZOMBIE race that is this weekend!
*full recap of the zombie race with an overload of pictures to come*

We didn't take hardly any pictures on our road trip, (Kansas is so boring to drive through) but we did watch a movie.
And we laughed and laughed and laughed. Every time is still just as funny as the time before.

We also hugged a bear once we got to Colorado.

It was so good to see Marshall once we got back. I know we were long distance for so long, but being married and seeing him everyday makes it way harder to go days without him! He was so sweet and gave Candace an eye exam.
I love watching him work.... hotttttt.

One morning Rhonda texted us that the entire American Idol top 10 from this year were at their hotel. Giant tour busses and all. Apparently they were on their tour. She kept seeing them walking, eating, singing (okay no, but that would be funny if they were just singing at the breakfast buffet).

One night we ended up just handing at their hotel and we were on a hunt to see at least one of the contestants.

We were in the elevator going to sit outside (with our glasses of wine in hand) and sure enough two of them were on the elevator. Thank goodness it was the only two that I knew. My Aunt Nancy watched it when we were living with her and so I would watch with her, but never really became emotionally invested.

We saw the one with the curls, DeAndre and the short tiny girl who sung at the Thunder game, Jessica.
They were holding hands. And didn't think anything we said was funny, which I believe probably was. So we all get off the elevator and they are still holding hands and they walk towards the front door and take off into the parking lot. So we decided to sit and wait and see if we saw anymore Idol action.
Marshall wasn't that much into our celebrity stalking.

But we sat and talked and laughed and it was a pretty great evening.
Apparently Phillip Phillips walked in when we were not on lookout. Darn.  I don't even know what he looks like so I wouldn't have known it was him. But at least I could have said I saw him. And DeAndre and Jessica didn't come back while we were there... someone needs a chaperon...kisses.

Surprise! I'm in Oklahoma!

I've had a fun couple of days....
We decided that I was going to use my last buddy pass (thanks to Marshall's uncle for the passes) and fly home and surprise my family! We told my brother so that he could help me get home from the airport and it was sooo fun!

My brother brought my sister-in-law, Teri, and his son, Jett, along to pick me up at the airport, but they had no idea and I had no idea they were in the car so it was a double surprise too!

They told my parents to meet us for lunch so I could surprise them.
My mom's reaction when she saw me standing in line to order for food!

It was such a great surprise, my dad's first thought was that something was wrong or I was pregnant and I flew home to tell them! Ha!
Nope. Just wanted to see the family for a few days!

I didn't want to do anything but hang out and that's exactly what we did!
I realize that most of my pictures are of Jett... and no one else...

I love that my brother and I were able to pull the surprise off.
Thanks for your help Aaron!

It was a quick few days, but I'll take anytime with these people!

kisses.

a weekend at camp.

Marshall's family has been going to a camp for the past 27-ish years (off and on the last 10). It's a family church camp in southern Colorado and it is awesome. I went three years ago with his family after only dating him for six months. It was the first vacation with a boy's family I had been on and I'm happy to say it worked out :)

Since Marshall and his brothers have gotten older it has been harder to get everyone together so now his parents spend a month volunteering at the camp that gave their family so much.
We had a free weekend, and his brother happened to be there for a few days too,  so we headed down to Horn Creek Camp.

We had a mission while we were there. Three years ago we carved our initials into a tree by the creek. We wanted to go find it and be all sentimental and stuff...

We were searching and searching up and down the creek. Sure enough we stumble upon a big tree that had fallen over, it was all uprooted. Marshall looked at the side and saw an "H"....
I'm not sure how I feel about our love tree being all sad and down now....
But we figured since it was my old initials it's okay... it was the dating tree.
We were going to make a married tree but didn't have the knife... next time.

We also did a whole lot of nothing, and it was actually really awesome.
I pretend skied with walking poles.

We took walks.

And we took pictures...with food leftovers.

We played games... but ending up making up our own rules because no one knows how to play anymore except on an iPhone.

And the camp even has a bowling alley, and since his parents work there and all the campers had already left and the new campers wouldn't get there for hours we got to play all we wanted... for free.
 Without our shoes on!

We went into the little town of Westcliff that is right by the camp and had dinner with his parents.
We decided to reenact a few pictures that we took last time we were there.
I couldn't remember... I looked at the camera, not away. Marshall remembered though.

And the train one is all wrong. Marshall was not driving the train like we thought. He was holding onto me as I almost fell out of it, and our angle is all wrong. Also, I think we were both more excited the first time around...

At the end of the week everyone dresses up for "banquet" night. Even though we were just camp crasher we still participated. You get to eat a nice meal, we don't turn that down.
The Walker clan.

And before we knew it, it was Sunday morning and time to leave. But before we did we had church in the small seminary log cabin.
How precious is this?

We took the scenic route home, stopped in Buena Vista and saw Marshall's cousin and her family where they were vacationing.
We played in the creek
and crashed Younglife camp.

And stopped for a photo op.

It was like a mini-vacation. It felt so good to get away from the computer, TV, and just enjoy some much needed Walker family time.

Family Church Camp rocks.

kisses.
