typical night

Our Friday night included dinner and happy hour.

And also a band called "That Eighties Band" that we didn't stay long enough to listen to.
Although I have no doubts in my mind that they were awesome.
Eighties music rocks.

Happy Weekending to you all.

beans + brownies = you can't even tell!

I am a sucker for sweets. I can't eat dinner without having it followed by something sweet.
I don't need anything fancy, in fact I prefer simple. Give me a cookie, brownie, or donut and I'm content. (we had donuts at our wedding, I love them so much)

When I found this recipe months ago from Skinny Taste for Black Bean Brownies I knew I had to try it. It's beans... in brownies. I mean let's be real, how can that possible work.
You use the box brownie powder, a can of black beans, and some water. A great way to sneak some protein and fiber into the pile of sweetness.

So I made them for our girls night and we all agreed.. you can't taste the beans.
And surprisingly still really good.
This picture was taken a few days after I made them. They are still just as moist as when they came out of the oven... weird.

And throw some ice cream on top and you really have no idea it isn't a normal brownie.
This picture kind of looks like a small turd.

we smell like dogs.

Our weekend was anything buy typical.
We dog sat.
We are dog people, we both grew up with dogs, we want dogs of our own, but these dogs were... well... interesting... sweet dogs, but interesting dogs...

We woke up at 6:30 a.m., let dogs out, watched to make sure they pooped and peed, and hung out at someone else's house (as opposed to the furnished rental we currently live in, this place feels like home, someone else's house does not).

We realized we are no where near ready for kids. Or dogs, big needy wild dogs at least. And I think kids are the equivalent to big needy wild dogs. So we aren't ready for kids.

And another exciting thing that happened this weekend. I have been without a phone for the majority of it... I dropped it in a small amount of water and it has currently been sleeping in a bag of rice. Praying it works... we can not afford a new phone, and let's be honest, once you've had an iPhone, it's really hard to go back. #phonesnob

is it a bra?

I finally watched The Bachelorette from Monday...

Ashley Spivey (the cute tiny nanny from NYC with the southern accent who was on Brad's season and got sent him on the 2-on-1 with her BFF Ashley Herbert who later went on to be the next bachelorette and picked hunk JP and is still currently with him. That Ashley Spivey) wrote a perfect caption picture that describes my thoughts exactly of the episode

I have no other words.

Wish I could have made it to girls night this week so that I could have been there to make fun of this.

a few hours to party

My dear friend Valerie was in town for a few hours today and I had the honor of spending those hours with her.
We went to Sonic and Target, a rare occurrence for this Oklahoman turned New Yorker.
We watched Pretty Little Liars and The Kardashians.
We even went to the pool.
And she got an eye exam by the cutest eye doctor around.

And as quickly as she was here, she was gone.
Until we meet again... in August on the east coast.

tours and slides

Marshall had the day off on Friday so we decided to head over to Golden, Colorado (about 30 minutes away) and check out the Coors brewery since we have never been!

We waited in line for about 40 minutes until they loaded us on a bus and drove us to the building.
They give you a sample halfway through and then 3 big glasses at the end! And not just of their nasty Coors Light, but of their good other brands!
At the beginning of the tour they take your picture with a green screen like on a cruise ship.
Of course we aren't going to buy a $20 4x6 so I snuck a screen shot pic.
They were watching so it was the best I could do.

After we drank free Coors we wanted to go alpine sliding. We have both gone a ton before, but not together, and things are just more fun together. There just happened to be one in Golden.
It also looked like it was at an amusement park that you go to to die.
It was soo run down, and maybe 4 carnival rides were working, also maybe 4 people were there.
We felt like we were on an episode of Walking Dead and zombies were going to start walking down the fake village street and eat us.
That would have been a lot more exciting than what was going on here.

There was also a giant rocking horse without his head.

And an awesome cutout that accurately depicts our physical appearances.

But all that creepiness wasn't going to stop us from having fun.
We rode the ski lift up to the top of the slide.
 Stopped for some pics.
And in 2 minutes our ride was over.

I would like to mention that I almost killed a bunny.
I was sliding and I thought that the bunny was going to jump over the slide, but it actually jumped under and I screamed and slammed on my break.
Had it jumped up instead of under, the ride experience could have been traumatizing.

I love days where I get to hang with Marshall and act like a bunch of little kids.
Kids that can drink adult beverages of course.

If you want me today, you have to go and get me.
My sweet friend Colie, from The Plaid Sparrow (she rocks BTW),  asked me to guest post today!

So pop on over and say Hi.

game # 1

Marshall and I were Thundering Up tonight.

And we won.

Game #2 is Thursday.

My beard and I are ready.

p.s. I never thought I would be this into NBA basketball.... it's so out of character for me.  But I love my state.

weekend update.

We didn't do a lot this weekend, and that was just what I wanted.

We had Chinese food.
In true China form, drank multiple beverages, tea, water and beer.

Ate fortune cookies.... that they don't even have in China... so American...
This was Marshall's... I told him he can't laugh at me anymore when I say my dream is to be a Kardashian.
The fortune told him not to.

We also saw a Chinese baby passed out at the liquor store.
It really felt like we were back in China.

We ran some errands... and somehow ended up at a brewery.
I drink sample size brews because I'm a lightweight.

We spent hours and hours at the pool.
I never want to not have a pool again.

We got dressed up (aka not our bathing suits), went downtown and tried a new church.
This wasn't the actual church... but it's on the same street. So it works.
It was a good service, and the church had realllly good donuts and coffee (marshall verified the coffee, I don't drink that stuff, but I'm a donut connoisseur).

And we satisfied our burger craving.
We had to cheat on our favorite, Five Guys, because the closest one is 30 minutes away.
And when I want a burger... I want it now.

I got to spend good quality time with Marshall (which is harder than you might think, having a roommate) and now I'm ready for the work week.... Marshall's work week, not mine....

kisses.

Thunder Up!

OKC Thunder basketball has been occupying my thoughts and TV lately.

The boys and I (my husband and our roommate) have been staying up late, cheering loud and yelling "OKC" out the window. We live in a more older person retirement neighborhood, so we want to be loud so they can hear the THUNDERRRR!

I wish I were in Oklahoma right now experiencing the excitement of making it to the NBA finals!

(The boys and I also can't stop singing this song about Harden, Durant, and Westbrook, but also about each other... okay maybe that's just me singing about us...)

So proud of our great state!
Can't wait to watch The Thunder play in the finals!
Our goal is to get a noise complaint.

sunshine.

I spent the afternoon soaking up some sunshine with Hannah and her sister Calley.
Hannah is about to go get married and we needed a day of pool side girl talk before she did!

It was just what I needed on this hump day.

Bachelorette Hannah

My friend Hannah, who I know through Kara (Hannah taught in China the year before I did), is getting married in 2 weeks! She lives in Denver and so kindly invited Kendra and I to her bachelorette party!
Blog friends unite!

Before we met the girls, Kendra and I had to watch the first half of the Thunder/Spurs game!
Go Thunder!

Next, the bachelorette party!

Hannah wore her bridal get-up...
And it was awesome.

We drank fancy drinks,

And opened fun gifts.
I might have stolen a few ideas from this book...

And of course we took pictures
Hannah's sister is awesome. I want to be her BFF.
Jumping in on their sister pic!

And you can't have a party without a dance party.
Hannah found herself a fellow bachelor party groom man.

Impulsive photo shoot with the bride.

And in the end we found this guy.
I wish I could demonstrate how he was dancing. The song could have been techno and he was S.L.O.W. jamming.
All alone. Just barely moving his hips, extremely slow style. He would also lift his shirt up a little. He was bizarre.

But he was just having a good time.
Kind of like this picture someone took of me.

Besides the fact that I just look into my dance moment, I was actually making fun of the guy behind me.
But what the heck is wrong with my arms? My arms have never been so long or freaky looking.
weird.

It was so fun to be out with girls and celebrate Hannah!
Congratulations Hannah! You're almost a married lady!

kisses.
