delayed flight = 3 less hours together

The parentals have arrived! I didn't blog while they were here, so I'm back dating all these posts. Because I'm OCD and I like to keep things in order.

Let me start by saying that it rained and rained and was SO humid while they were here that it was hard to have a great hair day here. Therefor, I am lacking in photos in some areas.

After picking them up from the airport, walking around the hood we headed to dinner to one of the local restaurants in Fishtown, Johnny Brenda's.

We drank some, ate some, and enjoyed the company.

Dad found a 3 wheel battery truck. His only has 4 wheels, and takes gas. Too bad.

Then we walked down to the German beer garden and had a drink, headed home, watched some TV, and went to bed.

Exciting? Yes! My parents are here. What could be more exciting!

In just a few (that means 2) days my parents will be landing in Philly and spending a long weekend with us!!!

We are soooooooooo excited.

The new weather forecast says rain, but we aren't going to let that stop us from having fun.

Today is a very special day. Our little Pryce turns 1 today. He should be in America with his family now. How much more paperwork do you have to do?

Wherever you are, whatever you are doing we pray that you know you are loved. We also pray that your foster family is celebrating and making you feel so special. Because you are so special! Your family can not wait for you to get here. We will celebrate when we finally see you!

BINGO

Since I still consider myself new to Philadelphia I want to be in the know here. So I follow all of the right people. I always know when a celebrity is filming on location in the city, I know what Craig (the lawyer), and Reid (the real estate dude) from The Bachelorette are up to (creepy?), and I always know what is going on in Fishtown. Marshall often asks "why do you know this stuff?" because all I do is read tweets, that's why.

I saw on one of the Fishtown neighborhood sites that they were having "Basket Bingo" at a church on Saturday. $5.00 to enter and that covers all regular Bingo games, plus your door prize ticket, plus $0.50 per "special" game. It started at 2 and lasted till 5. That's a lot of bingo people, but Marshall didn't have clinic and I wanted to play.

So we went.

And we played. And played. And then we had an intermission. And then we played some more.

We had to buy the "special" games, and we couldn't just play one card. We had to buy multiples. The prizes for winning the regular boards, were just okay, but the "special" prizes were at least a step up from okay. I wanted to win, I needed to win. There is just something about the thrill of Bingo that made me come alive!

But of course, we didn't win. We would get so close then someone would yell "I'VE GOTS A BINGO" and the crowd would collectively let out their "awwwes", they would call out the numbers, and the announcer would yell "THAT'S A BINGO" and we would clear our board and start again. And the people that won, they would win more than once. The lady next to us won 3 times. Rigged?

Until the last "special" game. Marshall and I really put all our money into this one. We bought 6 squares. That's $3.00 worth. That's like a 1/3 of a meal here in Philly.

But you know what happened.

Our hard work and perseverance paid off.

WE WON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I couldn't believe it either, it was a miracle. I picked the only good prize basket left and it was a basket full of breakfast. Pancake mix, syrup, chocolate sauce, muffin mixes, cereal, granola bars, other random crap, and a Superfresh gift card. (If you read my last post, you can imagine the excitement). It is kind of ironic that we JUST bought at the store pancake mix and syrup, and chocolate syrup was on our list for the next grocery store run.

We calculated what we won and we ended up making money on our Bingo experience.

Lesson Learned: Investing in the "special" games is where the money is.

I once wrote about the lack of nice/decent grocery stores in our area.

Well that has changed people.

They recently put in a Superfresh grocery store not too far away from us. It's in the neighborhood over, Northern Liberties. We can walk if we have the muscle to carry it all back, or a quick, easy drive away. This is blog worthy because it feels like Christmas came early.

Plus, the view from the check out lines and top of the parking garage looks like this.

Note: this photo actually sucks, but just imagine the Philadelphia skyline... while you are paying for your milk.

too much tv?

Is anyone else's DVR completely full with and you will have to resort to watching some online or on On Demand?? Because I really hope I'm not the only one who is feeling overwhelmed by all the new fall shows this season.

At least there are websites with TV schedules so I can prepare my DVR and figure out how I'm going to handle this!

Best case scenario. All the new shows suck, or get canceled and I stick with my old shows. Worst case scenario, I watch them all regardless if they suck or not.

Marshall asked me last night "What do you base a good TV show on?"

My response, "How trashy and ridiculous it is"

I was only half kidding...

Ever since I got married and moved to Philadelphia I have been doing things out of Heidi-like-character.

Reading.

I have a library card.. and I've made trips to the library. I don't think I ever went to the library in college except to cut through the building on my way to class.

I have read (and finished) MULTIPLE (not just 2) books since I have been married. Some say I'm growing up, I say I'm just bored.

While I was back in Oklahoma in August my brother was reading a Francine Rivers series. Anyone that has read any of her books know it's not usually a male favorite. But he kept talking about it so I had to give it a shot. My aunt, cousin, sis-in-law, and brother all read it so I knew it was going to be a good one. I started out with the first of the series,

Loved it. I was happy, then sad, then cried, then angry. Great book.

Then I needed the 2nd book, Her Daughter's Dream. I checked online and our neighborhood library didn't have it, but the central one did. So I put in a hold and had them send it to the Fishtown library.

Apparently I ordered the "Large Print" version.

It has 782 pages. I feel like a 5 year old learning to read. I find myself turning the page every 3.5 seconds. It also kind of gives me a headache.

The plus side. I don't have to wear glasses or contacts to read it.

Note to self. Next time you check out a book online. Make sure it's a normal print book.
