uno attack

We invited Xiaofei to our school. Xiaofei goes to DD and Jessica, Justin, and Heidi S., get the pleasure of his company all the time, and we wanted a little bit of the love. They also recently taught him UNO, and we heard he was a blast to play with. So we needed it 1st hand.

We also had an idea.... why not make these 2 hang out with each other and form a connection. Bad idea. Bahahaha.

They both do like the guitar though.... hmm...

The Xiao realized I was white. And he was white. And believe me, he is WHITE. Maybe the whitest Chinese I have ever seen. It felt good to see that color on someone other than myself.

Half the fun of playing games with someone who doesn't really understand your language is explaining it. Thankfully the DD crew did the hard work with XF

So we let Xiaofei explain to Winter in Chinese... which was also pretty entertaining. He kept saying Chinese and then he would yell "UNO".

We played 3 games, I won 2 out of the 3 games. Yes, I dominate anything card related. It's in my blood. Have you met my family? Aaron Reeves is a card playing animal!

Xiaofei was pretty intense. He would again YELL "UNO" before you even had a chance to say it yourself. So we would have to draw cards. He watched us like hawks. But we pilled those draw 2's on him and made him draw 10. We show no mercy in Uno.

Now that he knows where we live we actually hope he shows up at our door!

Kylie and I went downtown today... movie store, a new supply of butter, and of course a McDonald's snack. We didn't know we would stumble upon this little jewel...

4th floor of the Tesco supermarket downtown. A movie theater. I know. Amazing. Pretty sure no English movies. But maybe if we ask real nice they can hook us up.

My students from last year either are studying like crazy for their big English exams in a few weeks, or they have already gotten jobs. So whenever I see them they are too busy for me. I finally was able to hang out with some of my favorites from last semester.

It is so refreshing being with students who have a clear understanding of the English language.

Spring is coming. I know, spring should already be here. But finally, I think it is coming to China. Still, you never know here, so we have to take advantage when we have a beautiful day off.

We grabbed Robin and the 4 of us headed to the b-ball courts.

He is darling. His long undies and his shorts. He didn't look like any of the other Chinese players today.

We taught Robin how to play "Pig". When it was his turn he would do some crazy moves like this...

And we played a little 2 on 2. girls vs. boys. Kylie and I won. Surprising? Yes.

As we were outside I got a lot of looks today... more than usual...

Is it the fact that I am wearing shorts... or that my legs are a painful white color?

After our game we went to the teaching building to run the stairs. Group work outs are fun when you can cool down to this...

The Robin Hour

Robin is a gifted entertainer. And he knows it. Tonight we were just hanging out and he came up with this little act.

He needs his own show.

yi er cha cha cha

Tonight the usual Friday night dance party on the "quad" (aka outside the stinky dining hall) was canceled. I was sad until Monica told me about the Latin dance class instead.

Cha Cha. Heck yes.

Meet our instructor.

He is the skinniest Chinese man I have ever seen, and can move his hips like Maksim Chmerkovskiy.

And he meant business.

He made us cha cha in place with books on our heads over and over.

And we had to just stand with our arms stretched out over and over.

I forgot hot much I missed dance class. And how much we take for granted English speaking dance teachers.

It wasn't easy trying to learn a Latin dance from a Chinese speaking 19 year old boy.

Speaking of boys, there were only 3 there.

And Miles and Clark.

They do this a lot.

I on the other hand do not. Not Latin. No way. I don't think my body knows how to move like that. It lost my attention and my focus.

But these girls gained it.

They were doing a very strange move at the back of the room..., arms crossed, hips moving, body moving in circle, with head moving in circle at the same time.

I was intrigued. I had to be coordinated enough to master this.

I wasn't. But I got some good laughs, and made a few new friends. Success.

I also found a new girl crush. She can't speak English. But she was just so cool. Why are they all so cool? I think she was dating the teacher.

I think I prefer free style, giant circles around me type dancing.

And I don't think the teacher wants me back to his class on Sunday. I made a few scenes and the attention was focused on me...

Tomorrow night. Regular scheduled "quad" dance party.

THEY ARE COMING TO CHINA!!!

Flight is booked. Visas are being processed. Students are clapping. And in 5 short weeks they will be flying all the way across the world and hugging me!

I can't wait!

wrong day to finally go without my long undies

Today is a Chinese holiday. We didn't have school so I didn't really ask questions. ALL the students wanted to hike one of the many "mountains" around our city this weekend. Now that the weather is getting nicer, the students are becoming pretty active. Which is good. I need the exercise.

We went with some of Kevin's students and 1 of mine to Beidaihe to hike a mountain.

Flat Stanley came along for the trip. (Kylie's 2nd grade niece's school project)

They didn't know where to go.

So we walked.

20 minutes later, we were already tired, but we made it to the entrance.

Chinese mountains are weird. You have to pay to enter.

Probably because they look like this.

So why not wear heels?

This was a strange hill/mountain. You would climb different sections and it might be a giant tower, or a rock garden, or a pagoda. It just kept going and going.

And then we got to this.

And everyone was taking their picture with this rock. So I creeped and took the strangers pictures.

Mao watched the sun rise here. Neat.

But today there was no sun. It was so cold today, and the wind was out to kill.

But we didn't let that stop us.

And on our walk home from the bus stop, Kylie and I saw something we don't normally see...
